Variety says Nu Image/Millennium Films has greenlit the fifth Rambo movie. Sylvester Stallone will star and direct.

The project’s storyline, according to Variety, involves Rambo fighting his way through human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border.

John Rambo, troubled Vietnam veteran, was introduced on the big screen in 1982’s ‘First Blood,’ based on David Morrell’s 1972 novel of the same name. Three installments followed and many expected the fourth, 2008’s ‘Rambo IV,’ to be the last but the 63-year-old Sly said in interviews at the beginning of this year that a fifth Rambo movie was in the offing. ‘Rambo IV’ grossed $42 million domestically and $113 million overseas.

Production on ‘Rambo V’ will begin in spring.

Currently, Stallone and Nu Image/Millennium are putting the finishing touches on ‘Expendables,’ starring Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li and Mickey Rourke. The film pays tribute to the action movie blockbusters of the 80s and early 90s and, accordingly, features appearances by Dolph Lundgren, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis. It is set for release April 23.
