Some have wondered if the flight of ‘The Green Hornet,’ is ever going to take off. But a Sony rep has confirmed to Access Hollywood that it will, eventually.
The remake of the television show — which ran for only one season in 1966-67 – was set for a July 2010 release but has been pushed back to December.
This is good news, according to Seth Rogen, who stars as the Hornet and his alter ego, Britt Reid. Rogen told HitFix.com, “We’re both relieved and psyched about the change. It gives more time for post, which would have been immensely rushed if we were to come out in the summer. It also affords us more time to promote the film, (now we can go to Comic-con with more than a car!) and ultimately is a great vote of confidence from the studio.”
The project has hit a few snags along the way, including lineup changes. ‘Kung-Fu Hustle’ creator Stephen Chow was set to direct and play the role of sidekick Kato (the role that introduced American audiences to Hong Kong martial arts expert Bruce Lee), but dropped out of the project. Instead, French visual innovator Michel Gondry has signed on to direct.
The Green Hornet will also feature Nicolas Cage as criminal mastermind Mr. X and Cameron Diaz as Lenore Case, Reid’s secretary.
Rogen co-wrote the script with his regular writing partner Evan Goldberg. The pair previously collaborated on ‘Superbad’ and ‘Pineapple Express.’
