Diablo CodyDiablo Cody plans to adapt ‘Sweet Valley High’ for the big screen.

The Hollywood Reporter says Universal is in negotiations to pick up the rights to the long-running book series, with Cody attached to adapt.

Cody apparently spent her formative years reading the books, which centered on the lives of the teenaged Wakefield twins, Jessica and Elizabeth, who lived in the fictional town of Sweet Valley, California. Elizabeth was the studious and serious elder of the two, by four minutes, while Jessica was the flighty and flirtatious trouble magnet.

The young adult book series was created by Francine Pascal in 1983. Pascal and a team of ghostwriters published 152 books, with more than 60 million copies in print, between the debut and 2003. A TV series based on the books ran for four seasons, from 1994-1997, and starred real-life twins Brittany and Cynthia Daniel.

Cody will also produce, along with Mason Novick, who produced Cody’s ‘Juno’ and Marc Platt.
