It seems like an odd choice but the Weinstein Company and Dimension Films are planningĀ to remakeĀ ’The Amityville Horror,’ again. This is according to horror film site Bloody Disgusting.
‘The Amityville Horror’ was just remade in 2005. Directed by Andrew Douglas and starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George, the reboot grossed over $100 million at the worldwide box office. The original film was made in 1979 and it starred Margot Kidder and James Brolin as a couple who move into a house that they discover was the site of a multiple murder — and, as a result, is haunted. It is based on the allegedly true story of George and Kathy Lutz, as told in a book by Jay Anson, also titled ‘The Amityville Horror.’
The haunting has been the subject of nine films in total. These are:
The Amityville Horror (1979)
Amityville II: The Possession (1982)
Amityville 3D (1983) (3-D, also released as Amityville III: The Demon)
Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes (1989)
The Amityville Curse (1990)
Amityville: It’s About Time (1992)
Amityville: A New Generation (1993)
Amityville Dollhouse (1996)
The Amityville Horror (2005 remake)
This would be the tenth. Speculation is that the cash-strapped Dimension films is trying to save itself through a spate of reboots, sequels and remakes. The company, according to Moviehole.net, is currently working on ‘Spy Kids 4′ and ‘Scream 4,’ as well as remakes of ‘The Children of the Corn’ and ‘Hellraiser.’
The report says that there might be a director already in talks to develop the project. There is further speculation that the new film will be in 3-D.
