There will, in all likelihood, be a sequel to ‘Paranormal Activity.’ Though there has been no official announcement from Paramount studios, one can assume that Hollywood will follow what has become the natural order of things, and make a second movie.
And many are wondering if the studio is going to get carried away and destroy the franchise with something akin to ‘Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2.’
The follow up to the 1999 sleeper hit, ‘The Blair Witch Project,’ took such a flashy, dramatic departure from the low-budget original that it left viewers confounded and unimpressed and is often trotted out as an example of a Hollywood “don’t.”
Well, ‘Paranormal Activity’s’ stars, Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat say fans have nothing to worry about and that Paramount will not make the same mistakes Artisan films made with ‘Book of Shadows.’
The actors spoke to cinema site Moviehole on the subject. “There’s definitely some kind of sequel in the works,” said Micah Sloat. “I think that Paramount are kicking around some ideas. Nothing is concrete yet though.
“One thing I do know is that they want the film to encompass the independent feel of the original, they’re not just going to make a Hollywood movie, like ‘Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows.’ They’re really sensitive to avoiding that trap. I think whatever they come up with is going to be pretty interesting.”
‘Paranormal Activity’ was directed by Oren Peli and shot in his own home, for less than $15,000. It has so far made $84.6 million.
