Jolie and Depp share shower sex scene

Angelina JolieThe upcoming dramatic thriller, ‘The Tourist,’ starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, will feature the hot duo in a steamy shower sex scene.

Life & Style Magazine claims to have “obtained a draft of writer Julian Fellowes’ screenplay and can reveal that things get positively scorching between the actress, who is set to play Interpol agent Cara Mason [Jolie], and her new leading man.”

The script draft reads, “The outline of her naked body is visible in the shower. Frank walks to the shower and opens the glass door. Walking in, he lifts Cara against the glass, clutching at her slithery body, kissing her frantically. She kisses him back with ardour, wrapping her dripping legs around his back.”

The scene continues, “Cara turns abruptly to Frank and presses her body against his. He’s taken by surprise but willingly responds to her advance, wrapping his arms around her back. They exchange a long, passionate kiss.”

Depp — who was finally cast as the American tourist who travels to France and gets duped by Jolie’s character into being used as bait in a game of cat and mouse with her ex-lover, a criminal — is not the first actor to be connected to the role.

Both Tom Cruise and Sam Worthington were previously attached to the role.

There have been other changes as well, in what has turned out to be a revolving door of cast and crew. Charlize Theron was once expected to play what is now Jolie’s role. And both Bharat Nalluri and Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck were at one time attached to direct. Currently, the movie has no one at the helm, though Alfonso Cuaron (‘Children of Men’) is in early talks to take on the job.

The loss of a Tennesse Williams script

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 11:47 am on

Bryce Dallas HowardA forgotten script by Tennessee Williams has resurfaced and been turned into a feature film. ‘The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond’ was put to rest 40 years ago when Elia Kazan, who had directed two previous Williams scripts — ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ and ‘Baby Doll’ — abandoned the project to devote his time elsewhere.

The script, according to ComingSoon.net, went into hibernation until now. The new movie is directed by Jodie Markell, who also works as an actress. Markell has helmed one other movie, ‘Why I Live at the P.O.’ (1998), for which she also penned the screenplay.

Filming wrapped in 2008, and it features performances by Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Evans, Ellen Burstyn and Ann-Margret. Despite the strong cast and script by a multi-award winning and historical writer, there is little hype surrounding the revival of this long-in-coming picture, which will only be released in The United States.

The story takes place in Tennessee Williams’ home town of Memphis during the roaring twenties. The plot follows a headstrong young heiress (Howard) who rebels against proper Southern society by asking her father’s caretaker’s son (Evans) to escort her to the major social events of the season.

At one point Lindsay Lohan was attached to the lead role.

The movie will be released in December of this year.

Paranormal sequel will not follow Blair Witch example

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 8:34 am on

Paranormal ActivityThere will, in all likelihood, be a sequel to ‘Paranormal Activity.’ Though there has been no official announcement from Paramount studios, one can assume that Hollywood will follow what has become the natural order of things, and make a second movie.

And many are wondering if the studio is going to get carried away and destroy the franchise with something akin to ‘Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2.’

The follow up to the 1999 sleeper hit, ‘The Blair Witch Project,’ took such a flashy, dramatic departure from the low-budget original that it left viewers confounded and unimpressed and is often trotted out as an example of a Hollywood “don’t.”

Well, ‘Paranormal Activity’s’ stars, Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat say fans have nothing to worry about and that Paramount will not make the same mistakes Artisan films made with ‘Book of Shadows.’

The actors spoke to cinema site Moviehole on the subject. “There’s definitely some kind of sequel in the works,” said Micah Sloat. “I think that Paramount are kicking around some ideas. Nothing is concrete yet though.

“One thing I do know is that they want the film to encompass the independent feel of the original, they’re not just going to make a Hollywood movie, like ‘Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows.’ They’re really sensitive to avoiding that trap. I think whatever they come up with is going to be pretty interesting.”

‘Paranormal Activity’ was directed by Oren Peli and shot in his own home, for less than $15,000. It has so far made $84.6 million.

Tyler Perry sued for copyright infringement

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 8:29 am on

Tyler PerryTMZ says a copyright infringement lawsuit has been filed against filmmaker Tyler Perry.

The gossip and sensationalist news website says the suit was filed by the personal representative of deceased gospel singer/songwriter Bertha James and that it alleges Perry “lifted an entire verse” from a song written by James for use in his film “Madea Goes to jail.” The song was written in 1950 and is  titled “When I Think (of the Goodness of Jesus).”

TMZ says the suit claims Perry stole the verse and used it in the movie, specifically, “incorporating the entire chorus in a monologue delivered by the main character in ‘Madea’ referencing her deliverance from a jail sentence and leniency for repetitive criminal conduct, in a staged court proceeding presided over by ‘Judge Mabeline.’”

The monologue in question actually incorporates the entire song, of which the lyrics are,

“When I think of the goodness of Jesus
And all He’s done for me
My soul, my soul cries out
Hallelu, hallelujah
I thank God for saving me”

James’ estate is also suing Lionsgate Entertainment for unspecified damages.

King penning a Shining sequel

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 11:25 am on

Stephen KingOn November 19th Canadian director and screenwriter, David Cronenberg, interviewed author Stephen King on stage at Toronto’s Canon Theatre. According to Torontoist, who attended the event, “King dropped a fan bombshell on the crowd by casually describing a novel idea he began working on last summer.” It seems King that has been penning a sequel to his 1977 novel ‘The Shining.’ Can a movie be far behind?

Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film adaptation of the psychological horror story is often ranked as one of the best horror movies of all time. In it, Jack Torrance is sent to work as a winter caretaker at the Overlook Hotel. Once there and isolated with his wife, Wendy, and young son, Danny, Jack falls prey to an evil presence at the inn and goes mad, unsuccessfully attempting to kill his family.

Torontoist says the sequel will focus on a now 40-year-old Danny, who lives and works in upstate New York as an orderly at a hospice for the terminally ill. King spoke about the sequel’s plot, which will build upon the question of what Danny made of the traumatic experiences of his youth combined with his psychic powers (which saved him from his father in the original).

But don’t place any bets. We’ll have to hold our horses to see if King actually follows through. King said that he isn’t “completely committed” to ‘Doctor Sleep,’ the tentative title of the sequel. He said, “Maybe if I keep talking about it I won’t have to write it.”

No sex tape of JLo

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 11:02 am on

Jennifer LopezOjani Noa, the first husband of Jennifer Lopez says that, contrary to reports, he doesn’t have a sex tape of JLo and that he doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about.

The 35-year-old Cuban immigrant, who was briefly married to JLo in the 1990s, has made news recently for battling with the star over plans to release a movie titled ‘How I Married Jennifer Lopez: The J.Lo and Ojani Noa Story.’ The movie would reportedly involve home movies of Noa and Lopez, which some are saying expose her in sexual situations.

Lopez has scored a temporary court order to shut down the project and is suing for $10 million.

This isn’t the first time Noa has run afoul of Lopez. In 2006 she won an injunction preventing him from publishing a tell-all book about their relationship. Both projects violate a confidentiality agreement between the estranged couple.

But Noa tells E! Online that people have him all wrong. He admits to trying to sell footage of himself and Lopez from back in the day, but says there is no graphic sexual activity in the video.

“They think I have a sex tape with her and that I’m trying to sell it,” Noa says. “My tape is from our honeymoon, the wedding, us hanging out. There’s no nudity — maybe one spanking.

“There’s moments of her fighting with her mom…couples having fun and kissing. If someone has a sex tape, it’s not me.”

Noa says he’s “a great guy” and is “not going to harm anybody,” adding, “If I was going to hurt anybody I have had many, many chances to do it. I always wish her the best.”

He also says that ‘How I Married Jennifer Lopez: The J.Lo and Ojani Noa Story,’ isn’t about Jennifer Lopez. “The mockumentary is about me escaping from Cuba and living here. They think it’s about her but it’s not. It’s about me.”

As for his relationship with Lopez, Noa tells E! “I have moved on. If I wanted to make a buck, I would have done many interviews, and I never did anything.”

Mariah Carey finally gets some respect as an actress

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 8:57 am on

Mariah CareyMariah Carey will be presented with the Breakthrough Performance Award at the 21st annual Palm Springs International Film Festival.

The pop diva is being honoured for her performance in Lionsgate’s ‘Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire.’ Festival chairman Harold Matzner commented, “We’re delighted to be able to present the Breakthrough Performance Award to the extraordinary, very beautiful and versatile Mariah Carey, who, in a critically acclaimed role, completely transformed herself from a glamorous music icon to a forthright social worker for the role of Ms. Weiss in ‘Precious.’”

It has been a slog for Carey to gain respect for her screen efforts. The singer began her acting career with a small role as an opera singer in the 1999 romantic comedy ‘The Bachelor.’ Her performance was critically panned. This was followed in 2001 with a starring role in the semi-autobiographical film, ’Glitter.’ A critical and box-office disaster, ‘Glitter’ has been called one of the worst films of all time and Carey won that year’s Golden Raspberry Award for worst actress. She later appeared in ‘Wisegirls’ and ‘Tennessee.’ Both performances were much more warmly reviewed. Now, ten years after her screen debut, Carey is being recognized for her breakthrough performance.

Past recipients of the same award include Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Hudson, Felicity Huffman and Freida Pinto. Carey will join previously announced honorees Morgan Freeman and Anna Kendrick at the event, which takes place January 5 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

King Kong skeleton fetches over $200,000 at auction

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 8:48 am on

king kongThe metal skeleton of King Kong has sold for £121,250 / $200,305 at a Christie’s auction.

Christie’s website says the 22-inch armature “was designed by Willis O’Brien for the largest of the miniature models of the gorilla King Kong used in the Empire State building sequences in the climax of the 1933 RKO masterpiece of stop-motion animation King Kong” (starring Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong and Bruce Cabot). Manufactured in the RKO Studios’ Miniature Department Workshops from steel and various alloys, the skeleton comprises “a sophisticated system of interlocking ball and socket joints, bolts and screws which combine to give a remarkable degree of articulation in even the tiniest of joints.”

The armature was bought by an anonymous client who was bidding in the room, according to Art Daily.

Neil Roberts, Head of Popular Memorabilia, Christie’s London, said, “This King Kong armature was instrumental in filming one of the most recognizable sequences in cinema history, and as such it is an exceptional relic of film memorabilia. We are thrilled to have seen such excitement leading up to the auction and to have been able to exhibit the model to the public for the first time, and we are pleased to have realized a notable price which reflects its importance. The results throughout today’s sale illustrate that collectors continue to be drawn to items which resonate with their passions for popular culture; be it the golden age of cinema, Marilyn Monroe or James Bond.”

The auction took in a total of $858,153. Art Daily says other highlights included a very rare original puppet of Father Stanley Unwin from the Gerry Anderson T.V. series ‘The Secret Service,’ which sold for $30,975; a black silk evening dress previously owned by Marilyn Monroe which sold for $15,488; and a pair of sunglasses worn by Daniel Craig as James Bond in ‘Quantum of Solace,’ which fetched $1,961.

Susan Sarandon honoured in Stockholm

Susan SarandonCritically acclaimed actress Susan Sarandon was honoured on Saturday with a lifetime achievement award at the Stockholm International Film Festival.

The award was presented by Swedish actor, Gustaf Hammarsten who played Lutz, Sacha Baron Cohen’s sidekick in 2009’s ‘Bruno.’

After an interview and discussion, 63-year-old Sarandon accepted the bronze horse — the heaviest of all film awards, weighing 7.3 kilograms — and joked with the crowd saying she hoped the prize “would be my mid-life award.”

Of the Oscar-winning actress (for her role as Sister Helen Prejean in the 1995 film ‘Dead Man Walking’) Hammarsten said, “The roles Susan Sarandon has played often gain a life of their own beyond the films themselves.

“Reflection, seduction and rebellion animate her characters and seem to be the key tools in her actor’s repertoire.”

Sarandon, a liberal political activist, said that she always envisions herself as a character actor and that she seeks out roles “that encourage people to be the protagonists in their own lives.”

On top of her win for ‘Dead Man Walking,’ Sarandon has received four other Academy Award nominations for ‘Atlantic City,’ ‘Thelma and Louise,’ ‘Lorenzo’s Oil,’ and ‘The Client.’

She said, “I am very happy that I’m still working, that I’m able to get jobs when a lot of people that I started out with are no longer working. I still have a really good time, and as long as that continues I’ll continue to do it.”
