Ice Road Truckers: The Motion Picture

There are jobs that Hollywood loves to depict: police officer, doctor, lawyer, athlete, superhero. Then there are jobs that are actually interesting and never get the big screen treatment they deserve.

Jobs like Ice Road Trucker. But that might be about to change.

Max Payne director John Moore has told Deadline that his next film will be a dramatic take on the smash hit History Channel reality TV show Ice Road Truckers. And, he says, he wants to make it in 3D.

The show, which follows the men and women with the dangerous job of transporting 18-wheelers filled with mining equipment across a 350-mile highway made of Canadian ice, has been a hit with viewers since it debuted in 2007.

Now Moore says he and a writer have cracked a storyline for a dramatic feature film that would stay true to the reality of the incredibly difficult (and suspenseful!) job.

“It is very much a tough guy movie,” Moore says. “Here’s a bunch of characters who tackle problems by getting in there and getting things done. We’ll turn it into a mission movie that harkens back to Towering Inferno, Jaws, or The Guns of Navarone. You got a problem, go solve it.”

As the project is just getting off the ground there’s no timetable or cast yet in place, so expect more details to follow.
