Kanye West is being sued for copyright infringement, according to Contact Music.
Illinois rapper, Vincent “Vince P.” Peters, is taking legal action against the stage-crashing hip-hop star, alleging Kanye’s hit Stronger is a rip off of Peters’ track of the same name.
P. alleges he sent Kanye’s manager, John Monopoly, a version of his song, Stronger, hoping Monopoly would executive produce the project. He says Yeezy’s track came out seven months later and that the two are strikingly similar.
He apparently waited two years to file a lawsuit which names Roc-A-Fella Records and UMG Recordings as defendants.
X17Online reports that court papers obtained by website EatSleepCelebrity.com allege Kanye’s Stronger “copies significant and important parts of Peters’ lyrics identically or almost identically.”
The documents also reportedly point out that both versions of the song make reference to Kate Moss and both contain the phrases “that which does not kill me makes me stronger,” and “can’t wait much longer.”
The suit seeks unspecified damages and asks that both UMG and Roc-A-Fella be blocked from selling, distributing or having West perform the song. Vince P. also reportedly requests that any remaining copies of the track be destroyed.
Haven’t heard of Vince P.? According to his MySpace, “If you don’t know me you will soon. I hate most of the music that is out right now so I formed my own small indie label called “10th Dimension Records”. I have been written about in a couple celebrity and gossip blogs and oh yeah Im a next 100 Artist of 2008 for URB Magazine.”
