There is not a more fun toy on earth than Lego. That’s not an opinion, that’s just fact. So in an age where movie deals are being tossed out to toys from Stretch Armstrong to the Bratz, it only makes sense that someone has to make a movie out of those little plastic bricks.
Well, not out of those little plastic bricks of course, but about them. Now the Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Warner Bros. has signed a deal with Lego and writing/directing team Phil Lord and Chris Miller to make a Lego movie.
Lord and Miller are the pair behind the wildly popular animated hit feature Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. It was partly their success at adapting the 32-page children’s book into a 3D $243-million-dollar box office champion that convinced Lego they’re the right men for the job.
To get the gig, Lord and Miller first pitched their idea for a combination live action/animated film to Warners before traveling to Bricks by the Bay, the Lego convention, to make their pitch to Lego executives.
The suits apparently liked what they saw and now all systems are go. The project won’t take off for a little while yet however. Lord and Miller are currently busy developing their upcoming movie version of the Fox TV series 21 Jump Street and need to finish up before moving on.
