Gwyneth Paltrow: I Want to Collaborate with Jay-Z

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who sang on her own on Oscar night and with Cee Lo Green and a bunch of Muppets at the recent Grammy Awards, says her dream is to collaborate on a track with hip-hop superstar Jay-Z.

The actress, who is married to Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin, told Tim Gunn on the Oscar red carpet that she loves the New York rapper’s work and considers him a genius.

“He is a genius — and I’m his biggest fan,” she told Gunn, according to Billboard. “I think we’d be a good combination.”

Paltrow sang the song Coming Home on Sunday’s live Oscar telecast. Coming Home, which Paltrow also performed in the drama Country Strong, had been nominated for Best Original Song.

Should Paltrow’s dreams come true, it wouldn’t be the first time a member of her family collaborated with Jay. Martin performed on the rapper’s 2006 track Beach Chair and performed live with the rapper at his show last year at Yankee Stadium.

Asked by Gunn how Martin would feel about the collaboration, Paltrow smiled and said “I think very happy.”

Michael Hutchence Doc, Broadway Show

Filed under: Music, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 3:17 pm on

When INXS frontman Michael Hutchence died almost 14 years ago he left behind a lot of unanswered questions. Now those questions may be answered by a new documentary and a Broadway musical about the life and death of the charismatic Australian.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Martha Troupe, Hutchence’s former manager, is the brains behind both projects, through her company Michael’s Trust, which “owns and controls significant assets that celebrate his life, death and work.”

The other five members of the band, which still tours and records to this day, have previously denied requests to use their music in a documentary. At this point it remains unknown if they support Troupe’s recent efforts.

“We’ve already started talking to producers and directors about a documentary,” Troupe tells the paper. “I think we have that figured out. A documentary is going to be made. I will make sure, no matter what, and I hope it is with everybody’s blessing.”

Troupe recently inked a deal with Beverly Hills based talent agency APA to move the projects forward.

“[Michael] was a rock star in every sense of the word, warts and all,” says APA agent Keith Naisbitt. “In fact, he was one of the last great rock stars… There isn’t enough credit for what an incredible performer he was. With this deal, we’ll be looking at all avenues.”

James Franco Art Film to Feature Real Gang Fight

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 2:55 pm on

Oscar host and 127 Hours star James Franco is planning a film that will feature real life gang members fighting with real life weapons.

Franco is reportedly looking to team with art-house wunderkind Harmony Korine on a violent film that will feature real Los Angeles gang members battling at an “iconic location such as the Griffith Observatory” famous for its role in Rebel Without a Cause.

Anonymous sources have told the New York Post’s Page Six that Franco and Korine want the gang members to fight, for real, using real weapons.

“They are looking to film two actual street gangs doing a fight scene,” an insider tells the paper. “The twist is they want the two gangs to fight, using real knives. The production team is panicked that they’ll end up with blood, injuries and potentially dead bodies on set.”

Page Six says that Korine, writer of Kids and director of Gummo, previously worked with illusionist David Blaine on a movie called Fight Harm, in which Korine fought strangers on New York City streets. That project ended after Korine was injured multiple times.

Now a spokesman for Korine has confirmed that the director is working with Franco but refused to reveal specifics, saying only “I can confirm that there is indeed a piece of video art in the works involving gang fights by James and Harmony.”

Franco’s next Hollywood projects include the Noah Baumbach drama While We’re Young and the Disney Wizard of Oz prequel Oz, The Great and Powerful.

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 2:49 pm on

If you thought Toy Story 3 was the last you’d see of Woody, Buzz and the gang, guess again.

The entire treasure chest of beloved toys that make up the cast of the Pixar blockbuster franchise will return to the big screen in an upcoming short. Entertainment Weekly reports that the gang will reunite in Hawaiian Vacation, a six minute cartoon that will run ahead of Cars 2 when the hot-rodding sequel hits the big screen.

The story is said to involve the efforts of the toys to recreate a perfect romantic holiday for Ken and Barbie after the pair botch an effort to stow away on a trip to the balmy isles of Hawaii.

“Woody becomes kind of like what’s-his-name on Love Boat … Captain Stubing!” director Gary Rydstrom, tells the magazine.

Toy Story 3 cinched its position as one of the most acclaimed movies of 2010 on Sunday, by taking home the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

Cars 2 - with Hawaiian Vacation attached – races into theatres everywhere on June 24.

Bridget Jones 3 On the Way

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 2:46 pm on

Chick-lit heroine Bridget Jones is headed for a third big-screen adventure with Renee Zellweger set to star once again. Zellweger starred as Jones in 2001’s Bridget Jones’s Diary and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason in 2005.

The Sun reports that Zellweger has agreed to return to the role, with one major proviso.

“Renee had no reservations about saying yes once she found out she wouldn’t have to get fat,” an anonymous insider tells the paper. “She hated having to do that in the last two films.”

Along with Zellweger, co-stars Hugh Grant and Oscar winner Colin Firth are reportedly set to return as Jones’ two lovers, Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver. The paper reports that Firth is particularly eager following his acclaimed performance in The King’s Speech.

“Colin is really keen on a third film,” says the source. “He thinks it will be a great flick to get his teeth into after all the success with The King’s Speech, as it’s so different. He’s getting very excited about the idea of marriage and kids in the script now all the characters are older.”

Speculation is that the third Bridget Jones flick will likely feature Bridget getting pregnant and being unable to determine which of her two beaus is the father.

Reznor, Newman win at the Oscars

Filed under: Music, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 11:46 am on

Filmmakers weren’t the only ones winning Oscars on Sunday. Industrial rocker Trent Reznor (along with partner Atticus Ross) and piano man Randy Newman also took home little gold men, winning the top music categories at the 83rd annual Academy Awards.

Reznor and Ross collaborated on the score for The Social Network and their efforts won the pair the trophy for Best Original Score.

“Wow. Is this really happening?” Reznor quipped during his acceptance speech. “When we finished work on ‘The Social Network,’ we were very proud of our work and happy to just be involved in this film, and to be standing up here in this company is humbling and flattering beyond words.”

Billboard reports that backstage Reznor explained how his background with goth-industrialists Nine Inch Nails prepared him for the gig.

“A side of my music with Nine Inch Nails was going instrumental so it was not a huge leap or stretch to try this,” Reznor said. “The biggest challenge was working with a picture. David Fincher knew exactly what he wanted. It was one of the best experiences of my life from start to finish.”

Newman, picking up his 2nd win following 20 nominations, was awarded Best Original Song for We Belong Together from Toy Story 3. The songwriter used his speech to chastise the Academy for nominating only 4 songs for the award.

“Cinematography has five. What? They couldn’t find a fifth song?” he said from the stage.

We Belong Together beat out If I Rise from 127 Hours, Coming Home from Country Strong and I See the Light from Tangled.

Bob Dylan Muse Suze Rotolo Dies

Filed under: Music, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 11:44 am on

Suze Rotolo, the inspiration behind some of folk music legend Bob Dylan’s greatest work, has died.

Rotolo was the fair-haired beauty grabbing hold of Dylan’s arm on the cover of the singer’s early classic The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan. She was served as the muse for one of his greatest love songs, Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright.

Dylan described Rotolo as “the most erotic thing I’d ever seen” in his memoir Chronicles. The couple began dating in 1961, but split in ’63 following reports of his fling with fellow folk legends Joan Baez.

Despite her close relationship with the icon, the Hollywood Reporter says Rotolo refused to talk about Dylan publicly for more than 40 years before opening up to director Martin Scorsese for the 2005 documentary No Direction Home.

After splitting with the musician, Rotolo married film editor Enzo Bartoccioli and had one son, Luca. In 2009, she published the memoir A Freewheelin’ Time: A Memoir of Greenwich Village in the Sixties.

Suze Rotolo was 67.

Viggo Mortensen to Play General Zod?

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico, Uncategorized — D.I.S.H. @ 9:26 am on

With British actor Henry Cavill now set to don the red cape and suit up to play Superman in the upcoming reboot of the Man of Steel’s big screen adventures, the hunt is on to find a villain worthy of challenging the hero from Krypton.

Director Zack Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan have reportedly been taking their time to figure out who might best be up to the challenge. At the top of the list, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is Lord of the Rings star Viggo Mortensen.

The 300 director and his Dark Knight directing producer reportedly want Mortensen to star as the nefarious General Zod, the Kryptonian criminal mastermind who battled Christopher Reeve’s Superman in 1980’s Superman II.

The main complication with the deal is that Mortensen has already entered into negotiations to star in the upcoming fairy-tale adaptation Snow White and the Huntsman as the Huntsman. For the star to do both movies would require some major rejigging of schedules.

Mortensen isn’t a lock just yet, but like Kevin Costner – in contention to star as Supe’s pop Jonathan Kent – is most definitely a top prospect.

Snyder is continuing to meet with actors for the roles of Zod and Papa Kent as well as the three female roles, presumably including the lovely Lois Lane.

The new Superman movie is set to fly into theatres in December 2012.

Justin Bieber Director Lands G.I. Joe 2

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 9:26 am on

Jon Chu, the director of Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, the musical doc about the pop music sensation, is the top choice to direct the upcoming sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

Chu is Paramount’s top pick after impressing the studio not only with the Bieber doc, but also how quickly he worked to cut together the limited special edition “Fan Cut” of the flick for 3D theatres.

The director, who previously helmed Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D, reportedly beat out Law-Abiding Citizen director F. Gary Gray and a number of others to become the top choice to get behind the camera for the action-packed sequel.

The first Joe flick, helmed by Stephen Sommers, was a blockbuster at the box office, racking in over $300 million, even if movie critics weren’t quite as enthralled as audiences.

THR reports that star Channing Tatum is expected to return for Joe 2, but Cobra Commander Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a question mark.

Shooting on G.I. Joe 2 is expected to begin later this year.

Paul McCartney Pens Ballet

When the curtain rises on the New York City Ballet’s 2011 autumn production, the orchestral score will be the first ballet by former Beatle and rock and roll legend Sir Paul McCartney.

McCartney is the composer of Ocean’s Kingdom, a four-act ballet that will make its debut with the company.

The beloved Liverpudlian tells the New York Times he wrote the Romeo and Juliet type story of lovers “torn between two worlds,” because he enjoys new challenges.

“I can’t refuse an offer,” he tells the paper. “I’ve come to love working with orchestras… It’s a great palette.”

The Fab Four founder says he’s blown away by the ballet, saying he’s astonished at the physicality of the dancers.

“For me, the sheer athleticism is the most astounding thing about what I’m seeing… It’s like a meeting of the Olympic games and art, and I find that fascinating and challenging for me, to see what can be done.”

Though Ocean’s Kingdom is McCartney’s first ballet, the rocker has released five previous classical albums.

Ocean’s Kingdom will debut September 22.
