Courtney Love is Lindsay Lohan’s sober coach

November 30, 2011

It’s a dirty job but somebody’s got to do it. Courtney Love is reportedly trying to help Lindsay Lohan stay off the drugs and drink.

According to Contact Music, the rock and roll widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain tells Details magazine, “I’ve taken up Lohan because nobody else will. [She's] further down the line than I was, because there was no [gossip websites like] TMZ then.”

Love has, of course, famously battled her own substance abuse demons over many years and has reportedly admitted to using heroin during her first trimester when pregnant with her daughter Frances Bean, now 19.

In 2006 she was sentenced to six months of lock down rehab for abuse of prescription drugs and cocaine. Afterwards, she made a public statement, saying, “I would just like to thank the court for allowing me these 90 days… [It] helped me deal with a very gnarly drug problem, which is behind me… I want to [take this opportunity] to let the community know I’m doing great.”

Love, 47, has spoken of helping 25-year-old Lohan in the past. She is quoted has having said in an interview, “I went up to Lindsay’s room one time and there was a show on called ‘101 Celebrity Oops’ and I am like every other one, you know – boobs out, legs everywhere, throwing s–t at Madonna, you know, whatever. I’m like ‘Lindsay, look! Drugs are bad!’ ”

Lindsay Lohan is currently completing community service in a morgue.

LAPD wants chat with Blink 182’s Travis Barker

Filed under: Music, Rock, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 12:23 pm on

November 30, 2011

The LAPD is reportedly hoping to meet with Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker in an effort to find out why the rocker publicly accused one of its officers of scaring his children and possibly crossing the line during a traffic stop.

According to TMZ, Barker was pulled over on Sunday for allegedly having no license plate and illegally tinted windows. Police reportedly confirm that Barker was issued a “fix-it” ticket and sent on his way.

After the incident, however, Barker took to his Twitter account to make some allegations about the officer who pulled him over. He wrote, “Officer FARD of LAPD, get a life man. Find some bank robbers or do something productive 2 do with your time. I know high school was hard 4 u.”

He went on, “Pullin me over interrogating me & acting like u did over tinted windows till u scared the piss out my kids was uncalled 4.Job well done man,” and added that the cop “had the nerve 2 ask if i had any guns in the car.”

TMZ reports that Sgt. Riggs of the Topanga Station says, “I’d like to invite Travis to speak with me about the incident … and possibly discuss the situation with the officers involved.”

Despite the public condemnation of the officer to Barker’s nearly 1 million Twitter followers, a rep, somewhat ironically, tells TMZ “We are handling this privately with the LAPD.”

John Goodman says Hollywood has always made crap

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 11:39 am on

November 30, 2011

Veteran actor, and star of hyped upcoming silent film The Artist, John Goodman, has some choice words about the history of film.

Fox News reports that The Big Lebowski and Roseanne star said “There was a lot of baloney back then (when movies were first being made) too, most of it hasn’t survived, unfortunately.

“The crap progresses age to age. But it’s all the same.”

Set in 1927-1932, the era in which silent moves were being replaced by talkies, The Artist tells, quietly of course, the story a male star whose career is in decline, and an up-and-coming female actress. The flick is directed by Michel Hazanavicus and stars Little White Lies‘ Jean Dujardin and Argentine born French actress Berenice Bejo.

Despite the trailer being featured on Worstpreviews.com, The Guardian reports that The Artist is on the road to the Oscars after being named best film by the New York Film Critics Circle.

Always a character, Goodman joked with Fox on why he was especially excited about being involved with The Artist.

“Not having to learn lines, it was wonderful,” he said. “I just got to gasbag.”

Jamaican dancehall star escapes from prison?

Filed under: Music, Sympatico, Urban — D.I.S.H. @ 10:42 am on

November 30, 2011

Police are denying that Jamaican dancehall star Vybz Kartel has broken out of prison in Kingston after holding a guard at gunpoint.

According to several reports, including one from MTV UK, Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, allegedly started a riot at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre, where he was being held on murder, weapon and drug charges.

Reports say that Palmer and several other prisoners took control of the prison in the early hours on November 30, taking clothes and keys from guards before stealing a prison maintenance truck at around 1:45 a.m.

MTV reports that one police officer is thought to have died of a heart attack during the incident and at least twelve others are thought to have been injured, including two with gunshot wounds.

MTV says The Force Commissioner of Jamaica’s Criminal Investigations Branch has confirmed that Palmer is on the run and that he and the other escapees are now on the island’s most wanted list.

The Jamaica Observer, however, says police are refuting the claims.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green told the Observer, “I know nothing about that. If that had taken place I would would certainly have known.”

Palmer was arrested October 1 and is reportedly facing two murder charges, conspiracy to murder, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana charges.

According to his Wikipedia page, Palmer has worked on collaborations and remixes with Jay-Z, Rihanna, Missy Elliot, Kardinal Offishal, Akon, Lil Wayne and Eminem.

He has also apparently been nominated for the Source, VIBE and UK MOBO awards, although his 2004 UK MOBO nomination was withdrawn due to controversy over his allegedly homophobic lyrics.

Scarface remake in the works

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 10:13 am on

November 30, 2011

Are you ready for another Scarface?

David Ayer, the screenwriter behind the 2001 Denzel Washington drama Training Day, has been hired to write a modernized remake of the classic crime story.

Originally shot in 1932 with star Paul Muni as an Italian mobster ruling the seedy underbelly of Chicago, the story was retold in 1983 with Al Pacino starring as Cuban cocaine lord Tony Montana.

Deadline reports that Universal hopes to find a new take on the story that isn’t a remake, but rather a modern version of the tale of an immigrant who finds the American Dream through a life of crime.

“This is a fantasy for me,” Ayer tells the site. “I can still remember when I saw the film at 13 and it blew my mind.”

Ayer says the project is one that he’s pursued for years, convinced he has what it takes to re-imagine the story.

“I went after it hard,” he says. “I see it as the story of the American dream, with a character whose moral compass points in a different direction.”

To prepare, Ayer says he’s studied both versions of the film to figure out what elements could best be adapted into his new take. “Both films had a specificity of place, there was unapologetic violence, and a main character who socially scared the s–t out of people, but who had his own moral code.

“If it was just an attempt to remake the 1983 film, that would never work.”

No director or stars for the new Scarface have been announced just yet, but back in September Robert Loggia, one of the stars of the 1983 version, blasted the remake plans, telling TMZ “Scarface is a classic that should rest in peace!”

Shame director wanted to see X-Men star naked

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 9:54 am on

November 30, 2011

Steve McQueen – no, not that Steve McQueen – the director of the controversial indie drama Shame, says his whole reason for making the steamy sex drama was to see X-Men: First Class star Michael Fassbender naked.

Fassbender stars in the acclaimed film as a sex-obsessed New Yorker who clashes with his estranged sister, played by Drive star Carey Mulligan, when she comes to visit.

McQueen tells Collider that, while he was interested in exploring the issue of sex addiction, he was also keen to see the buff Fassbender in the, well, buff.

“I wanted to see Michael [Fassbender] naked,” McQueen jokes. “I was like, ‘Strip, motherf—er!’ Why? Well, I was speaking to (co-writer) Abi [Morgan] and she had this wonderful quote where she said, ‘It’s like having a dog whistle go off in the room.’”

Though the film has already received praise from critics, it’s also attracted attention due to its provocative subject matter and numerous nude scenes, which have caused the picture to receive a rare NC-17 rating.

The director says sex addiction isn’t often discussed and because of that, most people aren’t aware of the damage it causes.

“It’s a situation that people know about, but they see it for the first time and are made aware of it,” he says. “It’s extraordinarily important, but no one’s speaking about it. It’s a huge phenomenon.”

Beyond just sex addiction however, McQueen says he thinks Shame speaks to even larger issues about the modern world. “It’s not just about sex addiction. It’s about addictions, in general, and being in a world where we don’t necessarily have self-will. It’s difficult to be a human being, right now.”

Cyndi Lauper reveals botched tummy tuck

Filed under: Music, Pop, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 9:27 am on

November 30, 2011

Cyndi Lauper has finally revealed details of a tummy tuck she says was botched by a “diva” of a doctor.

Appearing on TV chatfest The Wendy Williams Show earlier this week, the delightful ‘80s pop weirdo admitted to having undergone the operation in 2006 in an effort to slim down surgically.

“I had a tummy tuck, one time when I was having some other things, issues that I needed (done),” Lauper told the host. “It was the worst thing.”

Lauper says the doctor who performed the operation didn’t even bother finishing the job.

“The surgeon was a diva,” she said. “She left and some student sewed me up.”

The singer said she now has nothing but regrets about the experience, as the pain and discomfort of the operation ended up being for naught.

“It’s not good. I was thin for a second and then, you know, [the weight came back.]”

The star recently revealed to Rolling Stone that she’s still inspired by Madonna, another 1980s pop star whose rise to fame coincided with her own.

“No matter what I did, there she was, and no matter what she did, there I was. And it wasn’t similar and it was never intentional. We inspired each other. I am inspired by her because she still does it and she looks great and I’m always on a diet, I can never keep a diet, but she looks fantastic, she always does, so that’s inspiring.”

Adam Lambert sings about sex

Filed under: Music, Pop, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 9:13 am on

November 30, 2011

Adam Lambert says his forthcoming album will be “sex music.”

The former American Idol runner up tells Rolling Stone magazine his second album Trespassing will be a beat-pumping, erotic free-for-all that will explore sexuality from a multitude of angles.

“There’s party music, sex music, f—ed-up-relationship S&M music,” Lambert says. “But every song explores something real.”

Thought it may surprise some fans to hear it, Lambert says that to craft the sounds he wanted for the disc, he’s been working with famed hip-hop producer Pharrell Williams.

“Pharrell is postmodern, like Warhol,” he says. “If you riff on something and make it your own, it becomes pop art.”

Though Lambert’s path hasn’t been the traditional, mainstream one favoured by most Idol contestants, the star says he’s still grateful for the opportunities the hit TV talent search gave him.

“No major label would’ve signed a gay 27-year-old white theater dude without Idol. Now it’s about how I use the platform. Whoever you are, I hope you can find yourself in these songs. If that happens, I’ve won.”

Wetpaint.com reports that Lambert is currently dating Finnish reality star Sauli Koskinen. The star says that “Outlaws of Love,” a track on the new album, was inspired by the ongoing battles surrounding the issue of gay marriage.

“I’d never considered marriage before,” Lambert says. “But now that I am, I can’t do it.”

Norwegian film crew members presumed killed by giant wave

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 8:54 am on

November 30, 2011

Two members of a Norwegian film crew are missing and presumed dead after being dragged into the ocean by a massive wave while shooting an upcoming Viking thriller.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, producer Daniel Henrriksbo and cameraman Mats Bjarg were shooting storm footage for The Veil of Twilight when they were swept away along with a third crew member who somehow managed to swim back to shore.

News in Norway reports that the incident occurred off the coast at Stapnes, on Norway’s southwest coast.

A helicopter search of the area failed to find the men, who are now believed to have drowned. “We had become like a family,” actor Jørgen Langhelle told Norway’s Aftenposten, telling the paper that the entire cast and crew of the film was in mourning.

The story of a serial killer in a small village during Norway’s time of the Vikings, The Veil of Twilight stars Trainspotting’s Ewen Bremner. Shooting on the picture is said to be almost complete and the movie is set to hit screens next summer.

Harry Potter to play gay poet

Filed under: Entertainment, Sympatico — D.I.S.H. @ 8:45 am on

November 30, 2011

Daniel Radcliffe has already left Harry Potter behind. Now the young British star is preparing to embark on the next stage of his career by taking a role that may shock fans of the boy wizard.

Twitch reports that Radcliffe will play gay beat poet Allen Ginsberg in the upcoming thriller Kill Your Darlings.

The film will be based on the real life relationship between Ginsberg, famed author Jack Kerouac and killer Lucien Carr. Carr, a writer and newspaper editor, was a major player in the eclectic beat scene of the 1940s and famously introduced Ginsberg, Kerouac and writer William S. Burroughs to one another.

It was his 1944 murder of former boyfriend David Kammerer, however, for which Carr is perhaps best known.

Carr stabbed Kammerer to death with a Boy Scout knife on August 13, 1944 in a park in Manhattan’s upper West side – he claimed, in self defence.

Plans for the film first became public back in 2009, with Captain America’s Chris Evans, The Social Network’s Jesse Eisenberg and British actor Ben Whishaw on board to star as Kerouac, Ginsberg and Carr respectively.

Though it’s unknown if Evans and Whishaw are still involved, Radcliffe has replaced Eisenberg in the cast.

Newcomer John Krokidas is set to write and direct the picture, which is slated to begin shooting just as soon as Radcliffe finishes up his run on Broadway, where he’s starring in the musical How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.
