Kelly Clarkson’s album sales are up 200 percent since the singer endorsed US presidential hopeful Ron Paul on Twitter earlier this week.
Clarkson took some serious heat after posting the note, which read, “I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he’s got my vote. Too bad he probably won’t.”
Paul’s detractors immediately jumped on Clarkson, calling the congressman “racist” and “anti-gay.”
But, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon.com sales of Clarkson’s album Stronger spiked 200 percent in a 72-hour period. On Tuesday, the album ranked No. 41 on Amazon’s list of “Movers & Shakers in Music” and by early Friday it had reached No. 13. Later in the day, when DISH checked the site it had jumped to second place, a total spike of 442%.
After the online attack, Clarkson posted a message on Twitter that read, “Man my eyes have been opened to so much hate tonight. If y’all ever disagree with something I say please don’t feel the need to attack me. I will listen to what you say and any articles or viewpoints you have when you say it with respect. Being hateful is not a healthy way to get people to see or hear you.”
Meanwhile, country star Blake Shelton offered to “throat punch” people to defend Kelly if need be.
